2 Master Passes

Rett and Chief got their 2nd Master Pass over the weekend in Blackfoot!!! Yeah! They did really well! I am so proud of them! Only four more! Way to go Rett and Cheif!

The boys and I went with him and we got to stay at a nice hotel with a pool. Crew LOVED swimming! In fact, just like many other fun things we do, he threw a major fit when we left the pool. Drake liked it too, after a while. I don't think he knew what to think at first, but once he got used to it, he splashed and giggled! It was really fun. Then, since there were only 10 dogs, it got over pretty quickly and we had time to go to Bear World! Crew loved that as well! In fact, he held his arms up like he was holding a gun and was shooting them the whole time. (Who taught him that!?!?) It was a fun family weekend, even if the boys and I were stuck in the truck during the test because of the rain. Even that beats staying at home without Rett!

Rett & Chief Get Their First Master Pass

If any of you don't know, my sweet husband is an avid waterfowl hunter. This, combined with his love for a good hunting partner, has also created a fondness towards retriever training. So, for the past few years, he has really learned a lot and started to get into AKC Hunt Tests.

The tests are set up with the handler and the dog to send him out on marks, which the dog sees fall, and blinds, where the dog doesn't see the bird fall, and the handler has to use whistles and hand signals to guide him to. There are three levels of hunt tests; Junior, Senior, and Master. At each test, you either pass or fail. After a certain number of passes, you are titled and are considered a Junior, Senior, or Master Hunter.

With Jezabell, Rett got her Junior title and a few senior passes. With Chief, he decided to go straight to the top and started at the Master level. This is really the first year he has gotten serious. In fact, he has a hunt test scheduled every weekend until Memorial Day. WOW!

The master tests, usually consist of three series; a water, land, and a water/land series. They also have to honor while another dog runs. At the hunt test in Fruitland, Idaho, Rett completed the test, but we weren't sure if he would get a pass. Sometimes you can do things that the judge will decide to throw you out even if you complete it.

This week Rett got the results and HE PASSED! When he called to tell me, he sounded so giddy! I was so excited for him. He seriously was so cute and excited about it. (Granted, the news came after a bad day of training when he said he wanted to sell Chief!) Anyway, it is so nice to see that all of Rett's hard work and effort is starting to pay off.

Good job Chief! And Rett, I am so proud of you!

One down, 5 to go! ( I think, don't quote me on that!)
