Lately Crew is all about saying prayers by himself. It's really cute. He does a great job. One of the things he ALWAYS prays for makes me giggle! He says "Please help me to grow up so I can be in a rodeo". Classic Crew! I love the faith of a small child. Even if it's for something we don't normally think of praying for :)
UPDATE:
I have to add this so I'll remember it. Last night at dinner Drake wanted to say the blessing and Crew decided he was going to help Drake. It was the cutest thing. Crew would say something and Drake would repeat it. It was going really great until it got super silly. Crew did ask to grow up so he could be in a rodeo and repeated it a few times before Drake lifted his head and said, "No, I don't want to grow up to be in a rodeo!". It was really funny! Drake did eventually say something about going to a rodeo with Dad. Anyway, it was really sweet of Crew to want to help Drake say the prayer!
Then last night we were laying in our bed, all four of us, watching TV and there was a show or commercial or something with a lady and a baby in a front pack. Drakey said super sleepily, "I want a baby like that". And we asked what he was going to do with a baby like that, and if he would be a good big brother, and if he would teach a baby to say prayers just like Crew was teaching him. He said yes, and fell asleep! It was a cute little conversation. No announcements about a new sibling though. Every time we think maybe we should, we have a super crazy day with the boys and are reminded that we don't want to be that crazy!

Crew's PreSchool
Crew went to Preschool this year at Mindy's Learning Adventure. He loved it. His teacher was great. He made some great friends. And he grew and learned so much! We're kind of sad that we're changing him to a different preschool with all different classmates next year, but he would have to change at some point, and this one is right around the corner from our house instead of going into Preston. I hope he has just as much fun!

The day they were taking these pictures, I wouldn't let him wear his cowboy hat. I worried you wouldn't be able to see his face. Now I kind of feel bad, and thought maybe I should have let him because it's just so Crew. You can still see his belt buckle though, and we have tons of pictures with his hat on.

Last night after Crew's little program, this little girls mom came up to me and asked if they could get a picture with Crew. I feel bad that my flash didn't go off, so it's a really crummy picture. Brooklyn had a crush on Crew her mom told me. She won't stop talking about him and his cowboy stuff :) One day we dropped them off about the same time and Crew waited for Brooklyn and then grabbed her hand to walk her into their classroom.

This is Trace. If you've talked with Crew lately, you have probably heard his name. He's been over a few times and they are best buds. He's most of the reason Crew is a little sad about not going to Mindy's next year. He's kind of crazy about him. Half the time at home he says he's Trace and I'm his mom Jan. When he's in those play modes, I'll ask him to do something and he asks if Trace does that. It gets old pretty fast. But they really do play super well together and have tons of fun. They are both cowboys and love to play outside.

This is Ms. Mindy. She's been so good for Crew. You can tell she loves the little kids like her own. And she's been so accommodating for Crew's obsessions. She said she learned how to put chaps on this year! The last day of school there were three little boys wearing them. She's so wonderful and we are so grateful to her for all her love and teaching she's given Crew this year!

Yesterday they had a little graduation program thing. It was cute. They sang a bunch of songs and then she gave them a little gift. They combined with her pre-k class so they would actually be singing. Crew had a couple of kids his age that did ok, but he barely sang at all. It took him a while to warm up. And he watched Trace the whole time and started to follow what he did. We asked him if he was scared to be up in front of all the people, and he said no, but I'm sure that's what it was.
One more year of preschool for Crew, and then he goes into kindergarten! Drake will be in preschool that year too. It's CRAZY to me! I know I say it all the time, but I just cannot believe we have two little boys. They are getting so big it's crazy! They are growing and learning and changing so much! They're becoming smart little guys too. We had Crew do a screening at the grade school and he passed with flying colors. His language and pronunciation are improving leaps and bounds. It seems like just yesterday we found out we were pregnant with him! Crazy! I have a four year old and in a few months I'll have a three year old too! That's why I keep this blog updated though. So I can remember all the little things before they get too big!

You Know You're a Dog Training Family When...
Drake pets the dead birds we use for training the dogs! Crew won't. He kind of thinks they're gross. But has gotten over it a little bit. He'll at least hold them now. Drakey just loves them though! It's funny. And yes, that's Crew wearing Rett's old rodeo boots in the background! He loves them and says they stink like bull poop! Silly boy!

And here they are trying to catch up to Rett while he's setting up for a training session with Zink. They think they are just as big as we are. I try to tell them it's a long way out and that they'll have to come all the way back, but they just want to be with their Dad!

I guess are kids are highly influenced by their parents. These boys love our dogs. They would play with them all day long if we let them. Last night when Rett got home, they were playing in a dog crate outside. They asked Rett to close it for them and we told them they wouldn't be able to get out if we closed it. They didn't care, but we didn't close it. We've had to try to teach them through the years that dog food is really meant for dogs, not little boys. And that drinking out of the same dish as a dog is kind of gross. They don't mind kisses on the face from dogs. When they pretend play they are usually dogs. They choose to be "Zink" or "Bullet" most of the time. (Bullet is a friends dog they saw when he was a puppy and they think he's pretty cool. Mostly because of his name, I think.) Anyway, we're glad they love dogs as much as their parents do!

Northern Utah Retrievers Club Field Trial and Derby List
Zink won the Northern Utah Retrievers Club Field Trial last weekend. Another blue ribbon! He's doing so great. He has run in 5 trials so far and has placed in 4 of them, 2 firsts and 2 thirds. And he still has quite a while till he ages out of the derby too. He's made the derby list. That is when a dog gets 10 or more derby points. A 1st place is 5 points, 2nd is 3 points, 3rd is 2 points, and 4th is 1 point. So Zink has 14 points after just the 5 trials he's been in. I'm so proud of Rett and Zink and how well they are doing. It makes me so happy to see Rett doing so well and so excited about it. I can't even tell you how awesome it is to see the success. So great! Way to go Rett and Zink!

Here's a few of the trophies from some of the past trials.

This weekend we're heading back to Salt Lake for another one. It seems to be the place for Zink. Let's hope this weekend is as good as the last couple at Salt Lake! Good Luck Boys!

We have Trees!
So, yes, we still have dirt, a lot of dirt, but we did add some trees to our backyard last week! YAY! It's funny how doing that, which isn't that big of a deal, adds a lot to making it actually feel like a yard. At least the starting of a yard! And the best part is the awesome neighbors who did most of it for us! One of our neighbors owns a tree farm. It's not huge, and doesn't have a ton of selection, but what they do have are great. And they're right next door. So they brought a tractor over and dug a hole with their spade. I had to dig out the bottom of it so it was more flat and not so smooth. Then I put some good old horse manure that another kind neighbor let us have in the bottom then filled them with water. Then they brought their tractor back with the tree in the spade and set the tree into the hole. We had to fill in a little around them and stake them down, but that was it. Pretty easy for trees. And you have to love the soil we have here for things like digging. No rocks! We put in seven trees; three blue spruce, two ponderosa pine, and two ash trees. They are pretty good sized too. Now it's off to working on the rest of the yard! Pretty simple really. We need to level, we want to bring in some landscaping boulders, then put in the sprinkler system, build a mound for some trees and rocks in the front yard, then plant lawn seed, plant the flower beds with plants, and we're done! The list is short, but unfortunately most of the items are pretty big projects!

Quigley Whiskers
Crew had "W" day at pre-school a while back and I tried convincing him to let me do whiskers on him with eyeliner. But he was a little weirded out by the idea. Last week one day he decided it might be kind of fun. So we drew whiskers on the boys and they watched Quigley. They're cute little whisker boys! I wonder how many other little boys idolize Tom Selleck? I wonder if Tom Selleck knows how much little cowboys idolize him because of his role as Matthew Quigley? Drakey was being the mean guy in the show, Elliot Marston. (Seriously, I know the names of the characters. You would too if you had to put the movie on as much as we do around here!!) Hence his growly face! It's a cute growly face though!
It kind of drives me crazy that now they beg for whiskers every day. But, I am trying to be better at thinking about things from their perspective. And if using a little of my eyeliner helps them have a super great day, I guess it's worth they annoyance. Which, I am not even sure why it annoys me. I'm sure we'll have many more whisker days around our home!

Trying to look like an Indian!
I got out some banner paper the other day so the boys could help decorate a birthday sign for Rett. I left them drawing with markers while I went to vacuum the bedrooms. I found Drake in his bedroom with nothing but undies on with a blue marker drawing all over his chest. I asked what he was doing and he responded "I'm trying to look like an indian". Too cute. Luckily it wasn't permanent marker. But I had to call and tell Bampa Kip, who is somewhat obsessed with Native Americans and American History to tell him that his indian obsession was wearing off on Drake. He said they hadn't even discussed war paint yet. I guess he probably got it from all the westerns Crew insists on watching! I didn't get a picture, but I wanted to remember it, because it made me laugh! Drake is such a smart little two year old!
Now if only I could get him to want to go to nursery. When he started going at 18 months old, he was in nursery with Crew, so it wasn't a big deal for him at all. Then Crew went to Sunbeams in January, and he had a rough couple of weeks, but got over it pretty quickly. In April, around General Conference time, we also had stake conference and a couple of sick weeks, so he missed a month or so of nursery. Ever since then, taking him is awful. He's worse than any kid I've ever seen! He screams and kicks and pulls the ladies hair! I'm so embarrassed. He's always fine after a few minutes, but hates it at first. When it first started happening I thought he'd be fine after a few weeks, but not so much! Today the way they got him to calm down was a lady who came in to help out lives down the street from us and gave the boys pony rides a while ago, and she started talking to him about that and then he was fine as long as she was with him. Crazy boy! I can't believe he's supposed to be in Sunbeams in just a little over six months. He has a LONG way to go before he gets there!
We love Drakey Baby for all his energy. I just hope the poor nursery leader doesn't end up with too many bald spots from him pulling it!

Happy Mother's Day!
Lately I've been so grateful for the wonderful women in my life. I have been blessed with strong, beautiful, and loving women in my life who continually teach me and help me along in my journey. I am grateful for so many women. I couldn't even begin to write down everyone's names, so, if you are a woman who I know, and you are reading this, you have positively affected my life in some way. Grandmothers, Mothers, Sisters, Aunts, Cousins, Neighbors, and Friends. I am so lucky to have all of you wonderful women in my life. I think that womanhood is such an amazing blessing. I love that women automatically want to do nice things for you and care about you even when they don't know you very well. I love that there's nothing like a woman's condolences or advice, whether it is when you are small and scrape your knee, or older and just need to vent. I am so grateful for the blessing of being a woman and all of my roles as a woman. I am grateful to be the DAUGHTER of amazing parents; a father, mother, step-father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, step-mother-in-law who all love me and my family so much. I am grateful to be a GRANDDAUGHTER of grandparents and ancestors who love me and who paved the way for me and who leave a legacy for me and my children. I am grateful to be the WIFE of the most amazing man in the world. And I am so grateful that he loves me enough to work so incredibly hard so that I can be home with our boys. I am grateful to be the MOTHER of two crazy, wild, sweet, amazing, handsome, funny, silly, rambunctious, and loving boys. I could never have imagined before I had children the joy that being a mother would bring to me. I am grateful to be the SISTER of the most wonderful sisters and sister-in-laws I could ever imagine! It is truly amazing to have such great friends in the sisters and sister-in-laws that I have. I am grateful to be a FRIEND to so many amazing women who have inspired and helped me every day. I am so grateful to be a WOMAN! And I hope that I can be the kind of woman that my Heavenly Father knows I can become!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
The Wheeler Sisters; Jennifer, Jolene, Tiffiny, Janae, Tierra
This picture was taken in June or July 2010 at my sister Tiffiny's house after my niece Magdalena's baptism. One of my sisters recently sent it to me. And I'm so glad! I think it's such a cute picture!

Wasatch Hunting Retriever Club Field Trial

Well, over the weekend Rett took Zink to Salt Lake to run the Derby in the WHRC Field Trial. We were a little skeptical because he hasn't been with Rett and there were some really good dogs there. However, we were SUPER EXCITED when he pulled off a 1st place! YAY! Rett was stoked. He was like a kid on Christmas. I know I keep saying that, but when you get to see your husband so happy, it just makes your day! I love that he loves this so much. I just can't wait till I get to be there. We decided not to go down because of the bad weather. Sitting in a truck during rain, snow, and cold with the boys just isn't as easy as staying home. So, plenty of trials to come. And the boys and I can't wait to get to them to support Rett and Zink!
Rett and Zink (1st in Derby), Mark Henry and Piper (1st in Qual), Ward Gray and Sadie (3rd in Derby)

The two Derby dogs have been through South of Bellevue Kennels and Mark Henry. Mark took 1st in the Qual with Piper. Mark and Gail were very excited! Rett couldn't even tell me about their excitement without smirking a little. I wish I was there to see all the excitement! Mostly because they are so hilarious and I can only imagine the fun celebration that could have taken place afterward! Way to go SOB Kennels!
This weekend is a trial in Boise. Rett sent Zink with Mark to run it. Mark kept saying "Great, no pressure for next week!". But I know Zink is in very capable hands. And we hope it goes well up there too!
